The 10 best stick vacuums of 2020 – comparative and guide

best stick vacuums

Recognize it: you use it less than you should. Is that you have to get it out of the closet or under the bed, adjust the tubes, go looking for where to plug the cable through the house, have spare bags on hand … what laziness gives just think!

To avoid it, you can always pass a broom but it is not far, as clean as after a vacuum. Also, when you sweep up dust and you never get the picker to honor its name and allow you to throw away everything you have cleaned.

If you are allergic to dust mites, daily cleaning is a festival of sneezing, with irritated skin and eyes. And if you live with pets, you’ve probably already resigned yourself to living with hairs on the floor, on the couch, in the clothes …

However, the battle is not lost. In recent times cyclonic technology has been a leap in quality in vacuum cleaners, which have been recycled into handy everyday appliances. And so, the stick vacuum cleaner combines the best of both tools: the simplicity of passing a brush on the floor with the relief of not having to pick up the crap. And if above dispenses with the unhygienic bags and works without wires, the comfort is already total.

Living without dust or lint is possible!

The only bad thing? That you have run out of excuses for not vacuuming.

The 10 Best stick vacuums

Below you will find a list of the best broom vacuum cleaners of the market, chosen according to their characteristics, their value for money and the evaluations of experts and users.

We have focused on bagless vacuum cleaners because it is a much more ecological and economic option that avoids having to buy spare parts periodically.

10. Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik Vacuum Cleaner

A stick vacuum with cable, very cheap and versatile for short and simple aspirates.
Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik Vacuum Cleaner
Check Price

The Dirt Devil Simpli-Stick is a vacuum cleaner for hardwood floors with a 3 in 1 construction. You can separate half of the vacuum cleaner from the frame and transform this vacuum cleaner into a manual vacuum cleaner. An included slit tool converts the hand vacuum into a convenient edge cleaning vacuum that can enter spaces too small for the large vacuum cleaner to reach.

When used as a traditional bar vacuum, the Simpli-Stick weighs only 3.8 pounds, which makes it one of the lightest bar vacuum cleaners on the market and a breeze to climb a series of stairs or from one room to another. The cable is 16 feet long, which is a bit shorter than the average, so you may have to change electrical outlets when trying to clean large spaces. The Simpli-Stick vacuum cleaner is designed without a brush roller, which guarantees that when you use it as a vacuum cleaner for wooden floors, your floor will be free of scratches. The disadvantage of this design is that the vacuum cleaner will not be able to clean the carpet effectively. Its 1.25 amp motor is not strong enough to remove dirt from the medium or high pile carpet, so you should use it mainly as a hard surface vacuum. With a modest 9-inch-wide head, you’ll find yourself making several additional passes to clean a room with a standard-sized vacuum.

The hand-held part of the Simpli-Stick is a good option for cleaning furniture, shelves or car upholstery; although you may wish it was wireless. When the slit tool sticks to your handheld, add a few more inches to the length, which can be useful if you need to suck out some dusty areas that are out of reach.

This hard floor vacuum has no side or edge suction, but the hand option allows you to access small spaces. The Simpli-Stick has no bag and uses a removable dust container for quick disposal. When the filter becomes dirty, you can rinse it and replace it when it is dry. This basic vacuum for bare floors offers excellent versatility and value.

  • Good suction power.
  • Very light: 4lb
  • Convertible to handheld vacuum

  • Low quality of materials.
  • It overheats if it is used for a long time.

Eureka NEC222
Check Price

This Eureka stick vacuum is surprisingly heavy, weighs 6.5 pounds, but that’s because it provides approximately twice the suction power of a similar cordless bar and hand vacuums. The 220-watt suction offers enough performance to thoroughly clean carpets and hardwood floors, but the battery is not limited to the built-in lithium-ion battery. You get up to 30 minutes of uptime with the standard power setting, plus you can swap a new battery, as it is easily removable.

The brush in this vacuum is slightly larger than in the competitors, which can be good or bad depending on your needs. On the one hand, it can cover more area thanks to the larger brush and the additional suction power. On the other hand, it can make it a bit more difficult to turn and get to small spaces. However, the head also has a set of LED lights to guide it in shady areas. In addition, the vacuum cleaner comes with several accessories and the head can be quickly separated with a touch of your foot to improve the versatility of the vacuum cleaner.

Users especially loved the washable filter in this, which is extremely effective in keeping dust out of the air and requires almost no maintenance beyond the occasional rinse. The garbage bin, too, is designed to minimize the hassle with a one-touch button to throw away garbage.

3. Dyson V7 Animal

Cutting-edge technology for a high performance broom vacuum cleaner and impeccable industrial design.
Dyson V7 Animal
Check Price

The cleaners of the series V of Dyson obtain a brother half in the form of the V7, that proves here with his disguise of animal that stirs the hair of the mascots. Much quieter than the V6 and a bit thinner than the V8, it has most of the flagship’s flagship features.

Lightweight, brilliantly balanced, excellent tools, excellent suction and pet hair cleaning capabilities that are better than even network-specific cleaners for pets: the V7 Animal is an excellent choice for many. It does not have the full power of the Cyclone V10 Absolute cleaner, the company’s flagship product, which is designed to replace a wired cleaner. However, if you do not want that and have a decent plug cleaner, the V7 is a quality cleaner that complements, rather than replaces, your existing cleaner. Its small size and light body make it very easy to use, too.

We’ve been big fans of the Dyson V6 and then V8 models, and the Animal V7 is simply based on the versatility and convenience of the race. The performance is just as good with the same excellent design, fabulous engineering, ideal tools for pet hair and excellent features throughout the process. The V7 simply exchanges a bit of suction power for longer runtimes than its siblings, and a lighter weight than the flagship V10.

If you really want to maximize your cleaning power, then the V8 has a bigger bump for a shorter time, but the lightness of the V7, the beautiful balance in your hand and 30 minutes of operating time with normal power make it comfortably best. Lightweight laptop in the market today.

Pros
  • Great cleaning on any type of flooring
  • Light, well balanced and quiet
  • Superb for pet hair
  • Easy emptying
  • Excellent tools
  • Awesome for stairs
Cons
  • Brilliance doesn’t come cheap

2. ONSON Stick Vacuum Cleaner

A vacuum cleaner with long-life battery, designed to clean thoroughly to the most inaccessible corners.
ONSON Stick Vacuum Cleaner
Check Price

With a weight of only five pounds, this is a very light vacuum. Picking it up and moving it is not a problem. And the design itself is quite nice, aesthetically, but also very clear and concise. Using the vacuum is easy, because everything is well delineated and there are no extra elements or unnecessary elements or elements.

When you are vacuuming, you can adjust the motor head by pushing it on the surface. You can adjust it in a variety of directions, allowing you to go under several surfaces, in smaller and more compact spaces, along with many other applications. You can even pick up the vacuum and use this cleaning head to clean spaces that are much higher.

You have access to two individual brush heads. One of these brush heads, the smaller of the two, is designed for hard floors, such as hardwood floors and tile floors. And then, the other brush head has been designed for carpets and rugs. This is a larger brush head because it needs a little more power when vacuuming carpets and rugs.

Of course, none of this would be particularly significant if the suction power was not suitable for the suction process. Fortunately, however, it is. While it is not so much the suction power as a vertical vacuum cleaner, because the motor is much smaller, it is still a significant amount of power, and you will not have any problem when vacuuming on any surface, and in any space, you want to vacuum in.

Using a HEPA filter, all the particles that suck vacuum are filtered properly. Especially the small particles that, although small, are especially pernicious. But, using this HEPA filter, those particles are eliminated so that they do not fly back to their air.

Pros
  • High quality at an unbeatable price
  • Light, well balanced and quiet
  • Different brushes and cleaning accessories for each situation.
Cons
  • Few heavy
  • Limited power

1. Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute

Powerful, long-lasting and incredibly good at, well, everything, the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute is not only the best cordless cleaner we have tested, it is the best cleaner full stop.
Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute
Check Price

As wired cleaners are limited by legislation, and battery models improve and improve, there will be a turning point when the best is wireless. That moment is now, says Dyson with the release of his wireless Cyclone V10. And, the company is so confident that it will no longer develop any new full-sized plug-in vacuum cleaner.

That is a bold statement, but that has been demonstrated with the performance of this vacuum. In fact, it’s so good that we did not want to use a wired cleaner once with this model. Clearly, the time of the plug-in vacuum cleaner has ended and the wireless vacuum cleaners have gone from being just for convenience, to being the best you can buy.

The cleaning performance on any surface is incredible, the ergonomics are excellent, the outstanding tools and the execution times are formidable in any environment. Yes, we would still like to see an interchangeable battery, but the Dyson V10 is the best in many main power models because of its cleaning performance, ease of use and comfort.

Last year, we were very enthusiastic about the Dyson V8 and the V10 has overshadowed even that magnificent wireless model. The V10 is incredibly powerful, is superbly designed and offers excellent cleaning on any surface. What really stands out about this new model is the amount of execution time that is obtained with this prodigious level of cleaning power. In suction mode 2, with an attached power tool, we obtained more than 23 minutes of cleaning performance that was up, or overshadowed, in many vacuum cleaners with network power. Switch to Max mode. And you will get a deep and genuine carpet cleaning. We still would like the option of an interchangeable battery, but the V10 is the first wireless cleaner that can actually replace a network cleaner in most homes. Absolutely brilliant.

Pros
  • Dyson V10 has up to a 60 minute run time
  • This vacuum has strong suction on all indoor floor types
  • Good size bin with easy emptying.
  • Brilliantly designed tools.
Cons
  • This Dyson can be awkward to hold as a stick when cleaning in higher areas
  • The V10 has a fairly high price point

Our final recommendations

The best stick vacuum cleaner in quality-price: Dyson V7

Dyson V7 Animal
Check Price

Dyson is the company that reigns in the sector. His is the cyclonic technology that has given rise to bagless vacuum cleaners, and his is a characteristic design, with the engine and reservoir in the grip of the vacuum cleaner, which many other brands have copied behind.
And is that the models that Dyson brings to the market are the ones that set the trend to follow for competitors. Not surprisingly, a large part of its budget is invested in R & D and in fine-tuning the small details of industrial design.

Although the Dyson V7 is number one on our list of recommended, we can only put two buts. The first, that the battery only lasts 30 minutes, when there are cheaper models that double this time (with less efficiency, everything has to be said). And the second, the price, much higher than its competitors.

Why those prices? Well, because Dyson is to the appliance market what Apple is to computing. Their products are of an indisputable quality, but a great part of their success is due to an intelligent advertising display. By creating that hype or interest on the part of the public, it has turned its products not only into efficient household appliances, but into a symbol of social status.

Beyond fashion, there is no doubt that Dyson cordless electric brooms are the best: great power of aspiration, energy efficiency, ergonomics, possibility to use as a hand vacuum cleaner, interchangeable brushes, HEPA filter for allergy sufferers, etc.

In the model in question, the Dyson V7 includes a special brush for hard floors that protects even the most delicate wood.

The V7 is not the last one that has come on the market, which will allow us to acquire it at a discounted price. If you prefer to have the latest of the latest, keep in mind that the Dyson vacuum cleaner is already in its V11 version.

The improvement is noticed in the battery, with longer duration, and in small technical details. But the price difference with the V7 is very large (more than double) and most of the features are similar, at least in the basics. So for the moment we are left with this model in our list of recommendations.

The best cheap vacuum cleaner: Eureka NES215A

Eureka NES215A
Check Price

With a very low price, the Eureka NES215A offers everything you can expect from a vacuum cleaner with broom function: the convenience of vacuuming the entire house without wires, with a simple appliance that we can use every day. It is stored anywhere thanks to its vertical design and the handle is foldable.

This model of the Eureka brand can be used as a hand vacuum, very comfortable to clean the car or the sofa upholstery. Also, of course, as a broom to remove dirt from the floor, and as a vacuum cleaner for more thorough cleaning, for example in curtains, lamps and ceilings, hard-to-reach corners, etc.

The basic package includes a rotating electric brush and several accessories to clean any surface in conditions.

Although the cyclonic technology minimizes the contact with the collected dirt and therefore is already clean in itself, it is always interesting that the chosen broom vacuum cleaner uses a HEPA filter.

This makes it suitable for people with asthma or dust allergy problems. So does the Eureka NES215A, unlike other more expensive vacuum cleaners, which do not include this type of filter.

The only but that we put to this vacuum cleaner-broom is that it has an autonomy of only 25 minutes. The duration of the battery is a data that is consistent with the price, and we must remember that this is a very cheap vacuum, which only costs about $ 30.

The most versatile stick vacuum cleaner: ONSON Stick Vacuum Cleaner

ONSON Stick Vacuum Cleaner
Check Price

Why versatile? Because it works perfectly to clean floors or high corners, thanks to your removable metal tube. But it is also a great hand vacuum, with enough autonomy to clean the sofa or the upholstery in depth.

We like interchangeable brushes, which are attached with a simple click. The big, motorized brush with LED lights stands out to reach any corner – under the bed, on the sofa, on a large piece of furniture.

The aspirate uses cyclonic technology, which is undoubtedly the best invention that has been made in the sector in recent years. Thanks to that, we have more suction power, we avoid the anti-ecological bags, and besides cleaning, we purify the air thanks to the HEPA filter.

The charging station goes on the wall, which can be an inconvenience if you do not want to make holes, for example, in the kitchen tiles. But you also have the option of using the charger directly, supporting the motor on any surface. It looks less nice, but it’s just as effective.

As you can see in the picture, the ONSON Stick Vacuum Cleaner is reminiscent of the classic Dyson, and is as comfortable as it looks. It is true that, in comparison, the English brand continues to gain in aspirated power and efficiency. But the Polti is expensive in terms of autonomy and price, something to be taken into account.

Stick vacuum, buyer’s guide

An electric broom (or stick vacuum cleaner) is the best option to keep the floors of the house clean, thanks to the fact that it includes a deposit for dust and dirt, which prevents us from carrying the unhygienic collector.

In addition, practically all the models available in the market work with battery, so that we can move with the broom independently, without relying on uncomfortable cables or having a plug nearby.

If on top of that we opt for a convertible model in a hand vacuum cleaner, the cleaning of the car or the upholstery of the house becomes a very simple and not at all heavy task.

The latest generation broom vacuums use cyclonic technology to separate air from dirt, a surprisingly simple and effective system.

What is cyclonic technology?

Let’s see it by contrast: think first of a classic vacuum cleaner, of the traditional vacuum cleaner. It simply creates a current of air, which passes through a filter. This sucks the dirt and stores it in a bag that is periodically pulled.

The problem is that the “lifelong” vacuum is losing suction power as the bag is filled, since the entire mechanism is obstructed by dust.

Against that, back in 1978, the industrial designer James Dyson (indeed, then founded the company with the same name) was tired of fighting with his homemade vacuum cleaner, which was continuously clogged. And he came up with a crazy idea: apply the cyclone system, which was already being used at an industrial level to separate components.

Think now of a cyclone: a spiral current of air that drags everything in its path. Applied to a vacuum cleaner, it is a whirlpool generated thanks to a cone-shaped design that moves the air at high speed. That shape causes clean air to rise through the center of the whirlpool, while dust particles, which weigh more, fall down and are stored in a closed container.

Cyclonic vacuum cleaners are more expensive than traditional vacuum cleaners, but they also last longer. The filtering system itself protects the dust from the motor and extends its useful life. In practice, this new technology is slowly replacing the old one, as it is more efficient and ecological, as well as being much more comfortable in terms of user experience.

Characteristics to keep in mind

1. Engine power

In general, the more powerful it is, the more suction capacity your vacuum will have. Although there are models that achieve extreme efficiency with lower consumption, such as the Dyson V7, with only 100 W has plenty of power to be one of the most effective vacuum cleaners on the market. To control this variable, check the energy efficiency class, which in the case of the Dyson is A +++.

2. Dust bin

Although some vacuum cleaners still use disposable bags, it is normal to incorporate a tank where all the sucked up dirt accumulates. With this you save the expense in bags, and the hassle of having to look for compatible spare parts. In return, it is important to check that the access to the deposit is simple, that you will not stain when emptying it and that it has a good size. The average in a vacuum cleaner-broom is around 0.5 liters. It is not a great capacity, but in this case the lightness and maneuverability are prioritized, so we are not interested in carrying a large and bulky tank.

3. With or without cable?

The most normal thing is that our new broom is wireless, to facilitate its use without having to be aware of having a plug by hand, or to change the plug when moving between different rooms.

In this section it is important to contemplate two variables. First, the autonomy time allowed by the battery, which normally ranges between 25 and 70 minutes. And also the charging time, since there are fast charging batteries that allow us to have our vacuum again ready in a short space of time.

However, the disadvantage of cordless vacuum cleaners is that they are less powerful because they depend on the battery and do not connect directly to the electric current. It is difficult to make an exact power comparison because in these it is measured in volts (V) while in vacuums with cable it is measured in watts (W).

4. Weight and dimensions

The brooms-vacuums are usually very light, around 3 kg in weight, since the idea is that they are very manageable. As for the dimensions, you must calculate the space you have to store your broom.

Some incorporate a charging station, which is not usually cumbersome but may involve making a hole in the wall. Others have the folding handle, to occupy less height. And not all can stand without extra support, so check that you have an adequate space next to the wall or in the broom so you can leave it supported if necessary.

5. Stick or 3 in 1?

The broom is sure what you will use the most, but it is interesting to know that there are models that allow to extract the basic mechanism (motor, filters, tank and handle), becoming a handy vacuum cleaner.

You’ll get a lot out of it to clean the car’s upholstery or for small emergency suckers, like crumbs on the couch. Option number three is to change the nozzle and use it as a traditional vacuum cleaner to clean mattresses, curtains, lamps, roof corners, etc.

6. Type of brushes

Most brooms include an electric brush composed of rollers that rotate to better trap dirt.

If you have parquet, check that the brush will not damage the wood. If you’re going to clean long-haired carpets, you probably need a special brush, or at least one that can block the rollers so they do not get stuck.

If the brush is very large, you will finish before vacuuming the floor, but it may be difficult to reach the narrowest corners. For this reason, it is interesting that your broom-vacuum cleaner has different nozzles to clean upholstery, direct the vacuum in turbo mode or clean hard-to-reach corners.

7. Filter
